Chrysler Dodge Jeep Cigarette Outlets Constant Or Switched Power

So I just wanted to post this quick car audio tip about, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeeps vehicles. Some of you may or may not already know, most the new Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler vehicles have a selectable cigarette power outlet. What this means is you can select whether you want your power outlets to be constantly on, or if you want them to switch on/off with the vehicles ignition.

If you look next to the battery in the trunk on the passenger side, you will notice a fuse box. If you take a look at the Fuse diagram, which should be located on the inside of the fuse panel cover, you will see FUSE 12. Fuse 12 is the cigarette outlet 20a fuse. This fuse can be moved to select either the constant or switched outlets.

This can be very useful when integrating aftermarket equipment, when tapping into the factory power outlets. Hope this helps!

Jeep Liberty With Infinity Sound System Front Speaker Replacement

If you haven't replaced a pair of from speakers in a Jeep Liberty with an Infinity sound system yet, then this tip may save you a little time in the future.

When you take off the door panels and remove the speakers, you will notice each front speaker will have a small amp attached to the bottom. Remove the amps from the speakers, they should just be mounted with a couple of screws. Disconnect the factory speaker, and extend the speaker wires, the Red wires are the positives and the Black wires are your negatives. 

Unless you are adding a whole new aftermarket sound system and plan on eliminate the Infinity system, your going to want to keep these factory amps functional. The placement of these amps in the front doors when upgrading to aftermarket speakers is VERY IMPORTANT. If you do not move these amps to the right locations they will get in the way of the windows, and most likely damage the glass. You first want to move and place the amps on the out side of the window tracks, closest to the door jams.  

Make sure when you place the amps in the bottom corners, that the heat sink if facing the outside door skin.

This is what the heat sink side looks like, you don't want this side mounted up against the inside door panel. You want it facing the outside door skin inside the door panel. Otherwise, the amps will overheat. 

The mounting holes for the amps are (1 11/16 In) apart.

With a Unibit/StepBit drill two holes on the left door panel (1 11/16 In) apart at about a 55 degree angle in the location I have market in the pictures on the left. Make sure the amp and all the wires are not in the way on the other side before drilling. On the right door panel drill two hole (1 11/16 In) apart at about a 135 degree angle in the location I have market in the pictures on the right.

The amps should then mount perfectly, with the harness coming off each factory amp facing up towards the door handle. Note: you will need new longer screws to mount the amps. 97-01 Jeep Cherokee Double Din Car Stereo Installation.

I recently installed a Double Din car stereo into a Jeep Cherokee, I think it came out pretty nice! Normally these vehicles will only fit a din or din and a half sized car stereo. But with a couple custom modifications your in business.  

This is what the factory stereo looked like, way outdated! lol

When you remove the factory stereo, grab the new Double Din stereo and put it up to the opening. Take note of the plastic pieces that are blocking the new Double Din from fitting in properly. The plastic in all four corners will have to be cut in order for the new stereo to fit properly. 

Moving on to modifying the dash panel. You will want to mock the stereo up from the back and try and get a good idea of how you want the stereo to fit. Filing the dash panel opening to fit your new Double Din size stereo can be very tedious and time consuming! To speed up the process and make the install a lot easier, you may want to invest in a "Dremel" or what I used, an air powered "Mini Belt Sander". Don't try and rush when filing the dash panel. You want all the lines to be nice and straight and you don't want to opening to be too big. Frequently check to make sure your getting the proper fitment.

Just about done with the filing.  

Perfect fit! Besides the gaps on the sides that will be filled with ABS plastic once the new Double Din stereo is mounted in the dash.

Getting the new Double Din stereo to fit is a little tricky. I used an air saw and first cut the bottom corner pieces of plastic out. *Note, the bottom pieces of plastic cut out were pieces of the a/c - heater duct and must be sealed off after cutting. Once the bottom was taken care of, I cut the top corner pieces as well. Cutting the top pieces was quick and easy and did not require anything to be sealed. After you get it to fit nicely in the dash you will want to get it positioned so when the dash panel is put back on the new stereo will sit perfectly in the new Double Din opening. I used metal "Back Straps" to secure the stereo in place on the left and right side.

Once the new stereo is mounted in the dash you can work on filling the gaps on the dash panel. I used ABS plastic, and a paintable/sandable plastic filler. Once you get the gaps filled, give it a quick paint job. 

And that's it! I didn't mention any of the wiring of the harness I figured that step is pretty straight forward. You now have a nice New Double Din stereo! Good luck, if you have any questions shoot me an email...
