My Tools

Most of us who work on vehicles love tools! This is my tool box. I will be using this page to go over some of the tools I keep in my box, and what tools I use on a regular basis.

One of the most useful tools, I use everyday are my "Xuron 170-II Micro-Shear Flush Cutters". I buy them off the Snap-On truck, so they warranty them for life! I use them everyday for stripping wires, cutting zip ties, cutting plastic tabs off dash kits, etc.. and recommend getting a pair if you don't already have them. They are a must have. You can buy them online for about $8.

A good pair of crimpers are extremely useful, it would be hard to install without them. Unless you are gonna solder and heat-shrink/tape all your connection which is very time consuming.

The pair on the left are Snap-On (29CP) mainly used for the thicker wires like 10-18G. The pair on the right are also Snap-On (PWCSS7CF) those I normally use for the thinner wires like 16-24g. If I had to pick one pair, I would probably pick the 29CPs which are the pair on the left.

If you take a close look I actually filed the crimp tooth on each side at an angle. It makes it easier on your hands after crimping lots of wires, but still gives you enough surface to produce a strong connection.

Snap-On crimpers (PWCSS7CF) these are not the most confortable to use, but I've notices they work well with the cheap inexpensive crimp caps/barrel connectors.

Another pair of crimpers I use are the Cornwell CCL909 they will run you about $30 which is not bad for a good crimping tool. They are made in the USA and have a lifetime warranty. They are a little easier on your hands then the Snap-On crimpers and the bright orange grips make then nearly impossible to lose. Definitely a great buy!

  2. Wow, you've got a great tool collection for your car and stereo. I'm jealous. I'm renting my place right now and don't have a whole lot of room for all of the tools I currently have. Keep on cranking and jamming on! http://safeandsoundalaska.com
